Chain of Command Wargame Rules - Operation Crusader
Operation Crusader
November 1941
I picked up the nice order of battle from Greg Moore
I show you an example, with due permission:
It's only one of them so I put the link to the site so you can see it all.
There I used Chain of Command for the Army Lists, but not respecting the rules, rather the (more or less) historical version from Greg Moore.
Is just an experience because I think I'll go back to I Ain't Been Shot Mum, somehow twisting the army lists to reproduce historical battles - the main advantage for this is that they don't follow the points system.
My idea for that, and I applied in this one, is to find out the real order of battle. Then, to calculate the amount of troops and assets for each side. There is no problem if we don't find a detailed OOB. If you know at least which divisions were involved is just a question to find out the organisation of each one and you can count the number of battalions involved.
For that I strongly recommend
After that, the smaller number corresponds to 1 unit and you calculate the others from that (or the opposite).
For instance, the Battle of the Bulge. We find, just a supposition, 300 german tanks and 450 american tanks. We have a proportion of 1 - 1,5. It means that for each 2 tanks for the Germans there will be 3 tanks for the Americans.
Just starting the idea. You try.

I Ain't Been Shot Mum Wargame Rules - Battle of Prokhorovka
The historical Order of Battle came from here:
The Army Lists came from here:
The main goal was to have the proportionality between the two armies, according the historical reality.
It means that you can change whatever you consider the best solution for a game but you must keep the relation.
For instance, armour. I have 12 for the Germans and 16 for the Russians (1 - 1.3).
If you have, imagine, 24 armour for the Germans (respecting the proportion between the different types), you must have 32 armour for the Russians (also respecting the ratio between the different types.
I'm a little more happy with this one and reinforce my idea that this rules are really adequate to reproduce historical battles.
And a brief note from Wikipedia:
The Battle of Prokhorovka was fought near Prokhorovka, 87 kilometres (54 mi) southeast of Kursk, on the Eastern Front during the Second World War as part of the Battle of Kursk in the Soviet Union. The 5th Guards Tank Army of the Soviet Red Army attacked the II SS-Panzer Corps of the German Wehrmacht in one of the largest tank battles in military history.
On 5 July 1943 the German command launched Operation Citadel with the aim of enveloping and destroying the Soviet forces in the Kursk salient. The operation was conducted by three German armies, with the 4th Panzer Army attacking from the south. Army Detachment Kempf was intended to protect the eastern flank of the 4th Panzer Army. Stavka, the Soviet High Command, was forewarned of the German intentions and had prepared a defence in depth along the routes of the planned German attack. They also massed a group of armies behind the front positions which they intended to use to launch their own offensive as a counterattack once the German strength had dissipated. This group of armies was called the Steppe Front, and its 5th Guards Tank Army was the armoured reserve with which they intended to seize the initiative.
A week into the German offensive the Soviets launched powerful counterattacks against the attackers. In the south at Prokhorovka, the 5th Guards Tank Army attacked the II SS-Panzer Corps, resulting in a large clash of armour just outside the settlement on 12 July 1943. The battle was fought across a stretch of land ranging in an arc of 20 kilometres (12 mi) to the west and south of Prokhorovka. The 5th Guards Tank Army was decimated in the attack, but succeeded in preventing the Germans from capturing Prokhorovka and breaking through the third defensive belt to achieve operational freedom. Subsequently, the German offensive was cancelled and their forces withdrawn. The Red Army went over onto a general offensive and seized the strategic initiative on the Eastern Front, which it was to hold for the remainder of the conflict.

Wargame Rules - I Ain't Been Shot Mum - Operation Wintergewitter
I Ain't Been Shot, Mum!, from Too Fat Lardies
A second try with these rules I just discovered.
First Step
We have this scenario for "Assault Gun". I can't remember where I found it, but I thank the author. If he ever read this post and wants to identify himself, I'll be very happy, although I guess the scenario is from "Team Kershaw"
OPERATION WINTERGEWITTER
Background description
This Scenario simulates the forlorn attempt by the German 57th Panzer Corps to relieve their pocket at Stalingrad in December 1942. It was a forlorn attempt because events elsewhere would require the withdrawal of forces assigned to the attack. Even if it had succeeded in reaching the point where there could be a breakout, the condition of the troops in Stalingrad would have made their evacuation hazardous in the extreme and may simply have added the 57th Panzer Corps to the debacle. In any event, Hitler wanted the pocket held, not evacuated.
Historically, the offensive made good progress, but the release of the Soviet 2nd Guards army bogged the attackers down and then they had to withdraw to assist with containing a serious Soviet breakthrough further North against the Italian 8th Army. There would not be another attempt to save the 6th Army in Stalingrad.
The game starts on the 12 December and ends on the 24 December.
OKH Briefing:
Codename: Operation Wintergewitter (winter storm)
Objective: Relieve Festung Stalingrad & hold open corridor
Strategic Details: Your force (57th Pz Corps) will drive North to the pocket. It will be joined by a corresponding Eastwards thrust from 48th Pz Corps. Once you are within 20km of the pocket, issue the codeword “donnerschlag” and the 6th Army will breakout towards you.
Operational Details: 57Pz Corps consists of the 6 and 23 Pz divisions. The 6 is a powerful formation of recently refitted experienced troops. The 23rd has been in heavy combat recently and, although low on men and material, will fight well. You are supported on both flanks by Rumanian allies. These troops have been decimated in the recent fighting, but will be able to delay enemy counter attacks long enough for you to react. In addition, the full strength 17th Pz division will be shortly arriving from France. The Luftwaffe is fully committed to the supply of Festung Stalingrad and will not be able to provide more than recce duties.
Intelligence Notes: The Soviet forces opposing you are worn down from the recent fighting, but they have extensive reserves, so you will need to conserve your strength for the final push. The 48th Pz Corps is facing the bulk of the Soviet forces in the area and, if unable to break through, will at least prevent their redeployment against you.

STAVKA – Intelligence Update: 51st Army
Concentrations of Nazi aggressors have been detected to the South and East of your positions. The ones to the East are being contained by 5th Shock Army. To the South an armoured force is likely to test your positions. It is not anticipated that they will attempt to link up with the trapped forces in Stalingrad, but we have placed the 2nd Guards army in reserve to meet any unexpected threat. The 5th Shock will be tied up for the forseeable future and will not be able to come to your assistance.
The 51st army consists of 4 rifle divisions, 3 on the front line and one in reserve. There is a cavalry corps behind the front line and the 4th mechanised corps in reserve for counter-attack purposes. Our airforce is committed to Stalingrad and operations elsewhere and will not be able to provide assistance. In any case, the weather should reduce enemy air power.
The 2nd Guards army will not be available for at least a week and consists of powerful guards infantry divisions and the newly fitted-out 2nd Guards Mechanised Corps.
Directive: You will prevent enemy penetration beyond the Aksay. Keep the 4th Mechanised Corps North of the Aksay to eliminate enemy bridgeheads. You answer to Stalin with your head.
